Quell

Thanks to Steve Jobs, we don't need Cheerios and crayons anymore. An iPhone is almost all it takes to keep everyone occupied until the DinoBites arrive.

There's a phone app called Gas Buddy, which Zachary uses to help Gramps hunt for the cheapest gas in Naperville. I've never used this app, so I can only testify to its soothing powers. On both of them.

There's the Camera Roll, of course, where pictures and videos are stored. Zach and Charley love this because they are the stars of 98 percent of it. Who doesn't like to look back on one's life two weeks ago and reminisce?

These kids hold these gadgets in near-reverence, for it is their go-to to toy within minutes of us sitting down to order.

And then there's the element of child-as-photographer. This may be the best app of all.

We can talk lighting and composition later.

Meanwhile, here's to calm at all dinner tables. And encouraging budgeting and art in one fell swoop.

Each week Naperville Now participates in Mrs. Matlock's Alphabe-Thursday. See what others have to say about the letter Q here.

I tried to resist the gadgets for as long as possible. Didn't last long. Especially going to restaurants. Now our boys are 7 and 9 and we've upgraded from lending them our iPhones to lending them their ipads. We "lend" so often, I asked for the mini Ipad for my birthday (love it!) since I can't get my hands on my own Ipad anymore....

At least there's no danger of having bored little kids in restaurants any more. I suppose there's something to be said for that.

My children 21 a28 would have managed quite well with book bags and paper now my grandson plays on his daddy's phone or mine

A sign of the times, I guess! What a cutie, and budding photographer! My 7 year old granddaughter loves taking phone pics and now has a video camera that looks like a phone -- I don't know exactly what it is, but she loves it!

I've kept some wonderful efforts from 'child as photographer' including a Christmas where our heads were lacking, to a photo hinting of a corner of enormous overgrown zuchinni, the rest being bare earth. They bring back such warm and funny memories.

i always chuckle when i see a little child sitting in a stroller busily tapping away on an iphone or an ipad. they are totally absorbed in their activity while mommy shops!

It's amazing how kids take to the gadgets while I'm still mystified...well, almost mystified.

Save that photo - it may be worth millions when she hits the big time!

There is that.

My middle Grandlittle is my smart phone tutor.

I think she gets frustrated with me.

I still make them turn off all electronics when they come to visit me.

They roll their eyes but then we have fun!

That picture is beyond sweet!

Thanks for linking.
