Back

For the first time since 1981, I've been invited to a Halloween party. I lurve Halloween. Always have. Candy? Fabulous. Free candy? Signed up since 1957. Being someone else for a night? Hand me that broom.

So, in the interest of being a good guest, I am asking my faithful followers to send in suggestions (recipes helpful) of what I should prepare for this witches party. I was going to slice up different kinds of apples and make pumpkin dip (cream cheese, marshmallow creme, pumpkin, spice), but alas, someone else has claimed it as her contribution.

Think cocktails. Think theme. Think easy for an indifferent cook who wants to only look like she slaved over a hot cauldron.

You must feel better. You're ready to party! I am at really depressed level. Have turned in my motorhome for the triage chair in the ER. Apparently the whole town missed me as they all signed in last night. Is an ant bite an emergency situation? You decide.

Ok, this is what I always take to a Halloween party. It is a big hit and most important, EASY. It's called DIRT and I can't believe you didn't make it for the girls when they were little.
You can make it as creepy as you want:
1 package Oreos, crushed (I use ziplock bag and rolling pin)
2 C milk
1 4oz. package Jello instant pudding mix (chocolate or vanilla both work)
1 tub (8oz) Cool Whip
Gummy worms, fingers, spiders, etc.
Halloween bowl, cauldron, pumpkin pail (whatever you can find to put the mixture in)

Crush Oreos until they look like dirt. Pour milk into large bowl, add pudding mix. Beat with wire whisk 2 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes. Stir in Cool Whip and 1/2 of cookies.
Layer container with cookies first, then pudding mix, cookies, mix, ending with cookies. Decorate with worms, spiders, fingers and voila! A creepy Halloween dessert that is yummy too. Happy Haunting!!

How about pumpkin bars - not as easy as dirt - but still pretty easy. Call me if you want the recipe.

Remember one year, I made something that I bought frozen over der by da Jewels? It was something green and frozen, and I mixed in something yummy, like Vodka. It looked like a witches brew. Throw in dry ice and you got it made!
