What Was Santa Thinking?

Meet Oscar, the latest addition to our daughter's life. His resemblance to The Little Rascals' Petey is quite good, but with better eye makeup.

Oscar is part American Bulldog, part Labrador (as evidenced by webby paws) and 100 percent lap dog. Currently weighing in at 60 pounds, he is still on his way to adulthood, so invest in Purina while you can.

Faithful readers will remember Naperville Now's Name That Cat post in July, when you were introduced to Tip, our daughter's rescue-cat-with-brain-damage.

From all accounts, Oscar's brain seems to be sans bobble. Furthermore, he knows some commands, is house-trained and could pull a pony trap without breaking a sweat.

He also is quite respectful of poor Tip, with whom he's gone nose to nose several times.

Tip is not amused.

My question is this: why do we persist in covering ourselves in pet hair?

Have you ever adopted a pet? Was it a good experience? Bad? A tweener?

Bandit, our 18-year-old Shih-Tzu, has been with us for 15 years, a $10 purchase from the Hinsdale Humane Society.

He was a pretty good deal, I think.

He's certainly a long-lived one, thus squashing the theory that too much pepperoni pizza is a bad thing.

Oscar looks like he would be the best kind of pal, but also a loyal protector if he had to. Santa is no dummy.

His resemblance to Petey, a childhood favorite, melts my heart even more.

Congratulations Oscar, on finding an excellent forever home.

Oscar the Christmas Dog!! Thanks for the blog post, Mom! Loyal followers, we adopted Oscar from Stray Rescue of St. Louis, where there were over 150 dogs in one location! And they have several locations! If you know anyone considering owning a dog, please encourage them to adopt! There are so many wonderful dogs and cats out there who need forever homes! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone! Love,
Anna, Oscar and Tippy

I grew up with 1 dog (my sister's) and many, many cats (not all at the same time). We never bought nor sought any of them; they just appeared at our door knowing that my mother couldn't refuse to take them in.

Oscar is going to be a great addition to the family, that's obvious! He is adorrrrrrrrrable!!!
We also had a dog, looked exactly like Bandit, named Muffin...we also got him from the Hinsdale Humane Society.

We were gifted with a rescue dog by our daughter and son-in-law when John retired. (They thought he needed something to do!) She has been a good dog for the most part, but has now taken over the house. (I think we named her incorrectly - it should have been "Queenie", as she thinks she is one!)

Our Shadow came from the Naperville Humane Society and Sundance came to us from ADOPT and they were both wonderful and fun pets and companions for us for many, many years.

Catching up postings & just had to share
- our son recently adopted a golden from the Fairbanks Rescue. At almost 18 months, Kodi is incredible. Somewhere between puppyhood & his foster family, he received beautiful care & training. He has the sweetest disposition & has bonded with our Dave & Jena all ready. A really good outcome for everyone & one of the success stories to know about.
