Festive

As you know, Naperville Now is not (and never will be) a cook.

At Christmas, however, some insane urge comes over me to do something a little different with the menu involving jello, which is odd because I don't especially care for jello and I never make it at any other time of the year.

But seasonal jello madness descends, and I am captive.

The Pioneer Woman featured a stacked jello recipe on her blog and I was smitten.

A mere 2 1/2 hours of my life later, I got this:

I can't claim that it tasted particularly fabulous, but it did stack. And it was the highlight  of baby Charlotte's Christmas dinner.

With the time it takes to prepare a meal for 8, squandering spending hours on jello doesn't make a lot of sense. And a 9 by 13 pan makes more jello than any one family will ever need in this life, or the next.

But it was definitely festive.

Naperville Now participates each week in Mrs. Matlock's Alphabe-Thursday. See what others have to say about the letter F here.

Wow. That is totally impressive. I definitely wouldn't have the patience to make that. It looks really great!

It may not taste great and may have taken far too much time, but that stacked Jello looks fabulous! I have to try this for the grands. Or, you could just send me your leftovers!

It looks better than any other Jello dish I have ever seen and I can hardly believe you made it yourself. I am all thumbs when it comes to Jello and never have anything made of it turn out. You are a true artist!

It certainly does look festive! Everybody needs to have a bit of fun with their food occasionally. As long as it isn't hours every day, I think you'll be fine.

I saw that recipe and thought Good Lord it will never turn out. But you did it. Bravo Sue!

wow! I've never seen jello like this before! Looks great! I'm not a cook either, nor a jello eater. But with a little whip cream, I can be coaxed into eating it! Happy New Year! {:-Deb

OMG used to make this alot when I was younger and we were discussing this recipe at the office prior to xmas.

ONE year ( you gotta watch out for this ) I took it to a summer picnic

AND....all the layers slid off each other in the heat.

It's not a 90 degree and above recipe lol! :)

I wish I'd seen this before Christmas. This has to become a Naperville Now Tradition!

My Mom makes that jello every single year. She makes it into a rainbow. Everyone eats a tiny piece and then there's a huge pan of leftovers that always get thrown away.

It is really fabulously lovely, though, isn't it?

Thanks for a fun link!

Wishing you and your loved ones a fantastic 2013!
